Virudhunagar

It is located 506 km (314 mi) southwest of the state capital Chennai and 53 km (33 mi) south of Madurai. Virudhunagar has an average elevation of 102 m (335 ft) above sea level and is largely flat with no major geological formations. The town has a humid climate and receives 780 mm (31 in) rainfall annually. It was formerly known as Virudhupatti.

MARIAMMAN TEMPLE

Some 37 km from the town of Virudhunagar, there situated the famous Mariamman Temple which is believed to be 500-year old. This temple is located at the place of the surreal confluence of Arjunan River from the northern side and Vaippar River from southern, and hence, this sacred site in Tamil Nadu has immense religious importance.

SRIVILLIPUTHUR ANDAL TEMPLE

This temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu and was constructed by the Nayak Kings. The temple is located in Srivilliputhur (46 km from Virudhunagar town) in the district of Virudhunagar. Every year, thousands of devotees visit Virudhunagar just to offer their prayers and seek blessings of the Almighty at this temple.
