From madurai mk tours & travels.Tiruvallur is a Grade I municipality and a fast developing city in the Indianstate of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of Cooum river about 46 km (29 mi) from downtown Chennai (Madras) and just 5 km from the megacity border, in the western part of the Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA). It is the administrative headquarters of Tiruvallur district. The city is known for the Veera Raghavar temple, one of the 108 sacred shrines of Vaishnavites. The tank festival is held at a pond near this temple. A Siva temple near this shrine which is popular among the locals. There is also a 40-foot (12 m) tall Viswaroopa Panchamukha Hanuman temple, where the murti is made of a single green granite stone.
Lord Veeraraghava Perumal Temple
Thiruvallur Veeraraghava Swamy Temple (or Veerarghavaswamy Temple) is a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, located in Thiruvallur, Chennai Metropolitan City, an area and headquarters in Tiruvallur district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Constructed in Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, the early mediaeval Tamil canon of the Azhwar saints from the 6th–9th centuries CE. It is counted as one among the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu. Vishnu is worshipped as Veeraraghava Perumal and his consort Lakshmi as Kanakavalli Thayar.
Thiruthani Murugan Temple
Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple is a Hindu temple, on the hill of Tiruttani, Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, India, dedicated to Lord Muruga. The hill has 365 steps indicating 365 days of the year. It is fifth among the six abodes of Lord Muruga (Aarupadai veedugal) The other five are Palani Murugan Temple, Swamimalai Murugan Temple, Thiruchendur Murugan Temple, Thiruparankundram and Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple. Tiruttani is 87 kilometres (54 mi) from Chennai. Earlier Tiruttani was called as Thiruveragam,After the correct Demon Tharagan (Soorasamharam) he got subsided his angry so here Kandha sasti festival (Soorasamharam) was not conducted.
Agastheeswarar Temple Thirupachur
Valeeswarar Temple (also called Pasoornathar Temple, Thirupasoor temple) is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in Thirupasoor, a village in Tiruvallur district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Shiva is worshipped as Vaseeswarar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Pasupathinayagi. The temple is located on the Southern banks of Poondi reservoir on the Tiruvallur – Tiruttani road, 5 km (3.1 mi) away from the town. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the nayanmars and classified as Paadi Petra Sthalam
Poondi Reservoir
Poondi Reservoir (later named as Sathyamoorthy Sagar) was constructed in 1944 across the Kosasthalaiyar River or Katralai River in Thiruvallur district with a capacity of 2573 Mcft and placed in service for intercepting and storing Kosasthalaiyar River water. Surplus water flows down the river which is again intercepted by Tamaraipakkam Anicut and diverted to Sholavaram Lake and Puzhal lake.
